Your dog
made of
tiny colorful dots.

If you can match a sticker to a number, you can make this. We print the numbered grid; you place the dots; the dog shows up. No drawing, no painting, no mistakes possible.

01 — The flow

Four steps. No mistakes possible.

The grid is numbered. Every dot has one right answer. Pick a podcast, find a window, get to work.

  1. 1

    Send a photo

Sunlit, eye-level, dog filling the frame. We'll handle blur, fix the lighting, and ask if anything looks off.

  2. 2

    We dot it up

Our designers map the photo to a numbered dot grid using the kit's 10 sticker colors. We print it on rigid foam board.

  3. 3

    Kit at your door

Foam board with the numbered grid, 10 color sticker sheets, and a numbered color guide.

  4. 4

    Color & hang

Place the stickers. Hang on the wall (Premium ships with the hardware to do it). Get compliments.

02 — The transformation

Send a photo. Get a dog.

We did this for Moose. We can do it for yours.

What you make

Why this works

You make the best dog you've ever seen. Not us.

There's a name for it. In 2011, two researchers at Harvard named it the IKEA effect, a cognitive bias where people value the things they partly built more than the things handed to them finished. The longer the labor, the deeper the love.

That's the whole product. Your dog ends up on the wall not because we printed it, but because you spent hours placing all stickers one at a time.

04 — Word from the pack

People cry sometimes.

We don't bring it up. We just let the kits do it.

"

My husband sat at the kitchen table for two weekends straight. I haven't seen him sit still in years. The dog is on the wall now.

We did this after we lost Beans. It was the first thing that helped. The kids took turns with the stickers. He's right there above the couch.

I'm going to be honest, I rolled my eyes. Then I did it. Then I ordered three more for friends. It actually looks like the dog. And it looks great on the wall.

05 — Things people ask

Quick answers.

If yours isn't here, email write.me.color.a.dog@gmail.com and a real human will write back the same day.

What kind of photo works best?
Eye-level, daylight, dog filling about 60% of the frame. Phone photos are great. Avoid heavy shadows on the face and avoid filters. If you have a few candidates, send all of them and we'll pick.
Can I do two dogs in one piece?
Yes, on the 4' × 4' kit. Send a photo with both dogs in the frame, or two clean photos and we'll compose them. We'll send you a digital proof before printing.
How long does it take to color?
24″ × 24″ (7,744 dots): 6–8 hours. 24″ × 36″ (11,616 dots): 10+ hours. Premium 4′ × 4′ (30,976 dots): a long weekend. Most people break it up over a few sittings. The numbered system means you can put it down and pick it up months later without losing your place.
Do you have to be artistic?
No. The grid does all the design work. Each dot has one number and there are no blends — you just match the sticker to the number. If you can read a phone number, you can color a dog.
Is the kit good for kids?
Ages 9 and up generally do well. Younger kids can color a section while a parent does another. The stickers are non-toxic and acid-free.
What if I mess up a dot?
Each kit ships with extra replacement of dot stickers in every color. Peel, place, done. Nobody will know.
How does it ship?
The foam board ships in a rigid box with all 10 sticker sheets and your color guide. US shipping is free over $100, otherwise $8. International varies. Ships within 5 business days of order.
Returns?
Because every board is custom-printed, we don't take returns of the printed board. If anything in the kit arrives damaged, email us with a photo and we'll reprint or refund. If you're not sure your photo will work, send it before you buy.
